Loan and return with OfeliaScan

OfeliaScan does not lend and return on its own: it only scans barcodes. BibliOfelia on the computer is what records the operation.

The principle: your phone is a "wireless scanner".

The simplest way: the site's camera

For a loan or a return, the fastest option is the browser camera built into the Loan and Return pages (see Scanning with the camera). OfeliaScan, described below, remains an option for those who prefer a dedicated app.

Typical workflow for a loan

  1. On the computer, open the Lend page
  2. Click Scan the card in the Member section
  3. OfeliaScan opens on your phone (vibration or sound)
  4. Point the camera at the member's card
  5. As soon as the code is read, the phone vibrates — BibliOfelia identifies the member automatically
  6. Click Scan a book in the Books section
  7. Scan each book one after the other
  8. Click Lend N books to confirm

Typical workflow for a return

Even simpler:

  1. Open the Return page
  2. Click Scan a book
  3. Scan all returned books, one after another
  4. Each scan automatically records the return

When to prefer OfeliaScan over the scanner?

  • The workstation is far from the shelf where the books are
  • Several aisles to walk through
  • Crate of books on the floor, crouched, scanner not practical
  • More than one person serving in parallel (several phones, one central station)

When the scanner remains better

  • Immediate reception (members filing in at the desk): the wired scanner is faster
  • Damaged barcodes: OfeliaScan can struggle with bent or scratched labels that the laser scanner reads without trouble

Common problems

OfeliaScan won't open

Check that:

  • The phone is paired with the Box (see Activate OfeliaScan)
  • The phone and the Box are on the same Wi-Fi network
  • The app isn't put in deep sleep by Android (exclude OfeliaScan from battery deep sleep in the Android settings)

Scanning does not trigger anything

The barcode may be poorly read: try moving the phone away or closer, check the lighting. You can also type the code on the keyboard directly on the computer.
